Landings are the most difficult maneurver most pilots will ever execute but there is more to flying than just landings. So let me tell you what your flight instructor can do for you...
Doug's students get their private licenses from 15 to 25 hours fewer flying hours than the national average. Why shouldn't you?
You may be asking, "How is this possible?"
I don't know. Those are just the results.
I think it is simply because he set high standards for himself and never quit innovating, asking other instructors' advice and collecting best practices.
Perhaps it is because after 2,326.5 hours flying and 5,149 landings, he knows how to land. Or after 1,231.9 hours giving instruction, he has knows how to teach student pilots to fly.
Could it have been because he built and test-flew a small, experimental airplane?
What about the years he spent at one of the US's premier national laboratory conducting research in fluid mechanics?
Maybe his four Special Operations combat commands taught him how to handle stress, how to teach others to handle stressful situations and remain calm, and how to communicate effectively in utter chaos.
Perhaps all of these experiences contributed, but I think that his passion for flying and love of teaching led to an optimized set of best practices.
